Luis Velasco-Pufleau is a musicologist, electroacoustic music composer and guitarist, specialised in the relationship between music and armed conflicts. He is currently postdoctoral researcher at the University of Fribourg and research fellow at the Center for World Music at the University of Hildesheim. In addition, he is a member of the research programme Sortir de la violence (ANR SoV) and the Humanitarian studies platform at the Fondation Maison des Sciences de l’Homme (FMSH, Paris). After completing his PhD in Music and musicology at Paris-Sorbonne University in 2011, he was a postdoctoral researcher at the Ecole des Hautes Etudes en Sciences Sociales (EHESS), and University of Salzburg, as well as a Balzan visiting fellow at the University of Oxford. His research focuses on political, historical, and aesthetics issues of music and musical practices, in particular related to conflict and violence. He is co-editor of the journal Transposition. Music and social sciences and editor of the open access research blog Music, sound and conflict.

He has been composer in residence at the Château de Lunéville and SCRIME of the University of Bordeaux. He has performed his works at several international contemporary music festivals, museums and contemporary art forums, such as Mixtur (Barcelona), ByPass (Toulouse), MACLA (Bordeaux), Sound/Image (London), the Havana International Festival of Contemporary Music, and the Lenbachhaus (Munich). As guitarist, he is part of the Khimaira Quartet (oud, guitar, acoustic bass and oriental percussion).
